INTENSIVE APPLICATION RESEARCH: A CENTRAL SUCCESS FACTOR IN PREMIX DEVELOPMENT
To ensure the high quality of end products, we don’t just rely on theoretical expertise on all aspects of active ingredients and carrier substances. Intensive application research is an essential prerequisite for the success of the fortified end products on the market.
In our highly specialised micronutrient laboratory, we conduct research on the interaction between the various vitamins, minerals and other functional active ingredients and their impact on the end product. Comprehensive detailed knowledge about the individual vitamin and mineral compounds and the interactions between them is essential in order to guarantee optimum results and rule out any sensory changes in the end product.
Through targeted application tests we are able to select the perfect combination of active ingredients for your products. Our broadly based application technology is a major key to success. As a subsidiary of the Stern-Wywiol Gruppe for premix development we have access to the extensive know-how of some 100 R&D specialists at our biggest special facility, the Stern-Technology Centre, close to Hamburg and of five other international SternIngredients companies in Mexico, China, Russia, Turkey and India.
100 FOOD SPECIALISTS, 15 APPLICATION LABORATORIES – WE ARE ONE TEAM
The large Technology Centre, roughly 3,000 square metres in size, combines 15 different special laboratories into one research facility. In addition to laboratories for beverages, dairy products, meat products, bakery products, pasta and flour, chocolate, food supplements and lecithins, we have access to laboratories for rheology, aromas, enzymes and biotechnology – and, of course, our micronutrient laboratory. Our facilities also include a fluidised bed and spray test facility, a separate analytical area and a sensory laboratory. Thanks to flat hierarchies each specialist company can access the pooled knowledge of the entire Stern-Technology Centre. This results firstly in enormous potential for new product ideas and secondly in profitable solutions from one source.
ADDED VALUE BEGINS IN THE LABORATORY
Numerous factors determine the success of the fortified food. They range from the selection of micronutrients and interaction with further ingredients such as amino acids, plant extracts and other functional ingredients to granulation, stability and solubility. With our customised premix development, we deliver product concepts that are geared to the product specifications of food manufacturers.
